Taipa Island, Macau, SAR Of China (Part 3 of 3)

The main reason we are at City of Dreams, is to watch "Dragon Treasure". While waiting for the performance time, we shop and take some photos within and outside City of Dreams. There are a few connecting malls and hotels, hence are rather a huge place to roam.

We do not have time to go to Coloane Island to try the egg tart from the original store. Knowing that it has a branch at The Venetian, how can we miss the opportunity to try the egg tart. The first thing to do at The Venetian is to hunt for Lord Stow’s Bakery (安德鲁葡挞) at unit 2119a of level 3. I prefer the egg tart from Lord Stow's Bakery then from Margaret’s Cafe. Margaret’s egg tart has more flaky crust and buttery content.

We take some photos from the beautiful sights and do some shopping here. Of course the things are more expensive here because mostly selling branded items.

Taipa Island, Macau, SAR Of China (Part 2 of 3)

Beside shopping and dining around Taipa Village and Rua do Cunha, there are some tourist attractions for visiting. Opposite of Mok Yi Kei, you will find this staircase leading to the Taipa Houses-Museum. Climb the staircase and follow the signboard direction and you will soon reach Taipa Houses.

Staircase leading to Taipa Houses-Museum

Before reaching Taipa Houses-Museum, you can rest and take some photos at Our Lady of Carmel Church. Unfortunately, the church is under renovation, hence we  miss the chance to step into the church. So we just take some photos around the place before visiting the museum which is just beside/below this place.

The Taipa Houses-Museum, which includes five typical green houses with Macanese architectural characteristics of Portuguese matrix, is considered one of the cultural relics and heritages of the Island. Next to the Taipa Houses-Museum is the Municipal Garden.

Taipa Island, Macau, SAR Of China (Part 1 of 2)

Map of Venture @ Taipa Island

We are glad to change our itinery to visit Taipa on Sunday. The museums offer free admission on Sunday and Taipa Flea Market takes place on Sunday. Taipa Island is famous for its traditional cookies, and in the old village Rua do Cunha (官也街) there are shops that have been baking and selling the same fragrant sweet morsels for generations. It is said that it is cheaper to buy the cookies from the same store (such as Koi Kei Bakery and Choi Heong Yuen Bakery) in Taipa Island then back in Macau Peninsula. The above shaded area is all you need to cover around Rua do Cunha before you proceed to City of Dreams and The Venetian. It is just a small area to be covered, not as big as it seems.

We reach Taipa Island early in the morning and many shops have yet to be opened. It is fine since we can have breakfast first. The shops start to open after we have a nice breakfast. The journey at Taipa Island, start from Rua do Cunha. It is just a short narrow lane, yet fill with much to see. In this short narrow lane, we already spot many recommended stores.

Pastelaria Fong Kei (晃記饼家) A traditional domestic baking shop for chinese biscuits, perfect gift for home town friends. It is famous for their almond with pork filling cookies. It really tastes nice.

Mok Yi Kei (莫義記) is located at the end of Rua do Cunha, selling gelatin dessert cake with a variety of flavours. It is famous for durian ice-cream. It tastes really solid good. Other desserts are tempting too.

We have finally lay our hands on the famous pork chop bun from Tai Lei Loi Kei (大利來記咖啡室) next to Museum of Taipa and Coloane History . The waiting to visit Taipa Island only on the third day of the trip is worth it. It is famous for its tender and juicy pork chop bun. You must also try the curry fishball.

Walking alone the road Rua do Regedor (地堡街), you can find many other eatery places. You can easily spot Serrdura (沙度娜) which is famous for its dessert serrdura. Restaurante Dumbo which serves Macanese-Portuguese food. How we hope we have the time and a stomach that will not be full to try the tempting food offer by the different stores.

Macau Peninsula, Macau, SAR Of China (Part 6 of 6)

We visit the tourist attractions Guia Fortress. The fortress was built between 1622 and 1638. Inside the fortress stands Guia Chapel. Guia Lighthouse, dating from 1865, which also stands within the perimeter, is the first modern lighthouse on the Chinese coast. Guia Fortress, along with the chapel and lighthouse are symbols of Macau's maritime, military and missionary past.

Next we visit Macau Fisherman’s Wharf which is not purely a theme park, but also combines dining, shopping, entertainment, accommodation, convention and exhibition facilities in one single location which takes just a 5-minute walk from the Macau-HK Ferry Terminal and Heliport.

Macau Science Center is near to Macau Fisherman's Wharf. We take the opportunity to take some shots of it from Hard Rock Hotel at Macau Fisherman's Wharf.

Our schedules are rather pack, we give both Kun Iam statue and Macau Tower a miss, since we pass by them and manage to take photos of them. Understand that from the research, Kun Iam statue is dedicated to Goddess of Mercy, is 20 meters tall and made of special bronze. The dome shape base like a lotus flower, is an ecumenical centre where information is available on Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.

The Indoor Observation Deck at Macau Tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Macau cityscape, China, the Pearl River and even some islands of Hong Kong on a clear day. The Outdoor Adventure View Deck offers mast climb, bungy jump, sky-jump and skywalk x for those love adventure.

Macau Peninsula, Macau, SAR Of China (Part 5 of 6)

Morning of second day in Macau, we take a taxi to Rua Norte do Mercado Almirante Lacerda to have a true yum cha experience. Opened since 1963, Casa De Cha Long Wa (龍華茶樓) is one place to have a taste of fresh & traditional dim sum. Dim sum here are self-service, so, just feel free to pick your favourites. We have not eaten traditional dim sum, hence not use to it. We still prefer to eat improvised dim sum of today.

After breakfast, we have a feel of the local market by visiting the Red Market. In my homeland, such market is getting lesser. It brings back memories of my childhood where my mum will bring my sister and myself to the wet market.

After visiting Red Market, we hit the road, Avenida Horta e Costa (高士德大馬路) which is a long street full of shops that begins at the Red Market (Hung Kai Si) and extends as far as the Flora Gardens (Yi Lung Hou Fa Yuen) beneath Guia Hill. The avenue has several up-market shops specializing in, among other things, clothing and shoes, electronic items and cameras. But the best bargains are found in the streets surrounding the street. The historic "Three Lamps" (Rotunda Carlos da Maia) and surrounding streets are full of tiny shops selling many kinds of goods at bargain prices.
